Raccoons: Bonnie and Clydes Story
Hello, my name is
Clyde and I am a raccoon in Southwest Iowa. My sister, Bonnie, and I were brought to the
Symbiotic Wildlife Rehabilitation Society when we were very little. We
had two brothers but they did not make it. You see our raccoon mom was
hit by a car and died. When my two brothers went looking for her they
fell out of the tree and they were hurt.
When we got to the Society we met our new “Mom”. She looked us over and
took the ticks out of our ears and she gave us warm food. Boy, were we
hungry. “Mom” then put us over her shoulder after every meal so we would
burp. About three days after we got to our new home my two brothers
died. They had internal injuries from their fall. My sister and I kept
getting bigger so “Mom” had to move us into a bigger cage. We figured
out how to get out of that one and run around the room we were in. That
was fun. Boy did we get into everything.
“Mom” finally got the cage fixed. Sis and I were not happy. One-day
“Mom” put some fish in our water dish. Oh boy!!! Sis and I got water
everywhere and we loved it. Finally “Mom” moved us again to an outside
cage. It was huge with trees to climb and a big pool with lots of fish
and other goodies.
“Mom” checked on us once a day but she did not play with us much
anymore. That was o.k. We were too busy catching bugs.
One-day “Mom” came out and she had other people with her. We were
scared. “Mom” put us in a small cage and we drove for what seemed
forever. All of a sudden we saw trees, big trees, and a stream, oh what
fun and then we saw our big cage. “Mom” put us in the big cage but she
forgot to close the door.
When we climbed out” Mom” was nowhere around, but oh the tree’s, the
bugs, the water, and oh the excitement.
So much to explore.
